The Palliative Care Companion is a supplemental resource intended mainly for use by patients of Dr. Hacker and their caregivers. It contains resources and information to supplement and reinforce information provided at home visits by Dr. Hacker and other home care professionals.

In our practice, a lot of information is given to patients and caregivers in a short period of time. Many are dealing with rapid changes in their condition and we ask them to absorb and process some challenging concepts. We do our best to frame this in terms that anyone can understand but we know that some people learn better when information is provided in written form and some with videos or charts. The information in the PCC will hopefully help to firm up people’s knowledge and understanding.

The PCC is organized as a knowledgebase that is searchable using the search bar. Asking questions in natural language is the easiest way to use the search bar (for example “How do I assess pain?”)

Each knowledgebase article also belongs to a main category (such as “Symptoms and Changes” or “Hands-on Care”). By clicking on the Category below the search bar, you can browse the various articles in each category.

At the end of each article, you can send comments to Dr. Hacker.. These comments are moderated by Dr. Hacker. All comments are read, and if you wish to leave your email address, they will be responded to as needed.

If you have general comments about the PCC or this site in general, you can use the Contact Us link in the navigation header or in the footer of each page. Comments are welcome, though we may not have the ability to respond to all of them.

This is a free resource created by Dr. Hacker without external supports. We accept no commissions, affiliate fees, sponsorships or other sources of income. Any links provided are done so “as is” and do not imply endorsement of any website or service.
